Bonheur For SaleI am sadly having to sell Seraphina. She has been ours since 2000 and has been cruising in the southwest since then. She is a comfortable, spacious boat completely refurbished in 1997 and with the original cabin layout except for a double berth in the aft cabin. She is in sound condition but in need of some sprucing up.

This is a reluctant sale of 'Wumpus' - a classic 9 ton Hillyard constructed in 1965 for my grandfather.
She was sold to another owner in 1978 and spent her intervening years in Jersey (even making a transatlantic trip and cruising the med) before I bought her back in 2012.
Over the last five years Wumpus has been subject to a meticulous and painstaking restoration by Nick Gates of Emsworth. He posted a YouTube video of some of the work which you can view here. She looks gorgeous as a result, and following all of this work her woodwork is most likely the best example on any 9 ton currently on the water.
Sadly, it has cost rather more than expected with £40,000 spent so far and I do not have the money to pay for the final things I would have liked to have done to be confident to take my young family out. She could do with a proper engine overhaul or replacement, an overhaul of electrics and work to the interior. None of these things in themselves are in particularly poor state. The starter motor needs replacing, but I am happy to do this at my own expense for the new owner. The engine does work quite reliably but is an old model fitted in 1982. The electrics also function fine but I would have liked to fit modern communications systems. And the interior is in good condition but I would have liked to have bought new cushions and made it all a bit more homely. Likewise the rigging and sails could probably do with replacing in the next few years - but again not a pressing job.
As with any wooden boat it is the 'nasties' that lurk beneath that are the most worrying things. Wumpus does not have any of this - and the outstanding work are all straightforward jobs where costs are more defined.
I have all the invoices and can supply detail of all of the work carried out to date - along with a survey carried out for me when I bought her in 2012 - which will show all the important points have been addressed.
Some of the big jobs include - Mast fully repaired, new spreaders. New toerails, guard rails. Deck essentially replaced. Cabinsides and coachroofs replaced, new deck fittings.
Inside she has the classic centre cockpit layout - aft cabin with double berth & heads, comfortable full height saloon area featuring galley with paraffin stove, and seating which converts to another double berth if required, and another double in the fore cabin.
Please contact me for additional information about the work undertaken or if you have any other questions or queries.
She is currently lying on a mooring in Lymington Harbour, Hampshire. If you did not want to take her by sea I am happy to pay for her lift out and scrub so you can then transport her by road.
Asking price is £19,995 - but will consider reasonable offers.
striking vessel was built at the Hillyard yard, it
has beautiful low slung lines and a heavy wooden
hull, pitchpine on oak, with many sailing years
ahead of it still. An attractive strong bow leads
to that lovely low slung design. The side
decks are wide with solid toe rails.
The deep semi-open cockpit with steering and engine controls is amidships. You can easily seat six people here in all weathers. The cockpit has an entrance to a roomy aft cabin. The pointed transom has a transom hung rudder. The engine has been placed next to the main cabin entrance below deck. The steps to the main cabin and the cabin itself have been attractively panelled and have original brass work, with a fine inlaid table. Further back is a recently fitted but stylish galley with brass pump and carpentry with a chart table on the starboard side. Also on the starboard side is some room for an extra berth. Toilet in the bow together with storage space ( that could also serve as berths). Recently installed new keel stepped spruce wooden masts and new main mast step, the bow and rudder have been restored too.
The boat has a perfectly running 3-cyl Gardner (1968) 60 Hp diesel engine. A Heatpol diesel heater, three burner stove with oven, new toilet. 7 berths. Electric anchor winch, bronze winches, three fore sails, main and mizzen.. Autopilot, depth sounder, compass and GPS. The beautiful teak deck is covered with thick sections. The cabin, electricity and the cabin roof needs attention. The ship is reasonably dry. A beautiful classic vessel. And an unique Hillyard design.
Dimensions: Length 13 m, width: 3,50, depth: 1.70, 21 Ton.

Nantua 9 ton
I have owned her for 16 years now and have enjoyed her enormously. I have less and less time to spend on her upkeep and little opportunity to sail.
We did a lot of work on her decks and hull in 2010 and she still needs a little finishing work in the aft cabin, saloon and brightwork overall. Other than that she is sound.
She is moored at Oare Creek, near Faversham, Kent

"Anne" - 4 Ton
For Sale - Our cherished 1939 12 Ton Hilyard Ketch "Lady Corinne"
A beautiful 45 foot overall double ended, carvel planked hull with
Pitch Pine planking on Oak Frames she was started in Littlehampton in
1939 and the hull was completed before the yard turned its attention
to the war effort. During the next few years she lay in a mud berth
where the salt water preserved her timbers until she was finished and
commissioned in 1945 She was the first boat to leave the Hilyard yard
after the war.
She has had a colourful life including many years as an RAF training
ship after being bought to replace one of the windfall yachts gained
from the Luftwaffe which was dashed on the rocks somewhere off the
French coast. We returned to Chichester last year after a 16 day
Transatlantic crossing from the Cape Verde Islands to St Lucia in the
Caribbean after which followed an extended cruise around the Islands.
The final chapter saw us enter her for the Antigua Classics in 2010
where we achieved 2nd in class and second place in the Privately
Maintained Concours de Elegance. In spite of her years this Lady is
still turning heads - a true beauty she really is a gem and is much
admired everywhere she goes getting praise from lots of passing boats.
She has a ton of solid Douglas Fir for her main mast together with a
beautiful 8' Bowsprit and a short Bumpkin.
The following list is not comprehensive but is designed to give an
insight, together with the photographs, into her overall condition.
